A Beginner’s Guide to Genshin Impact’s In-Game Currency: The Teyvat Economy
The money-talk of all (rich and broke) Teyvat travelers.
Buckle up, traveler, we’re going to have that money talk! This guide will basically cover what you need to grind and save up for, if you want to pull for your favorite character, get that dream weapon, or simply make your team stronger. Yes, upgrading your characters can be quite costly. So, let’s begin!
A Beginner’s Guide to Genshin Impact’s In-Game Currency: The Teyvat Economy
1. Mora: Every Traveler’s Common Gold
Mora is the lifeblood of Teyvat. It’s the most commonly used currency in Genshin Impact, even NPCs you can buy stuff from require you to spend Mora. You can use it for different purposes:
Buying Standard Items: Merchants across the land accept Mora in exchange for everyday goods.
Crafting and Enhancement: Forge new weapons, create artifacts, and enhance your character’s abilities using Mora.
Artifact Enhancements: Boost your artifacts’ stats by spending Mora.
Character Upgrades: Level up your characters and talents.
(Reminder: The photo below shows the total cost of all Mora and talents books needed to max out a character to Level 90. The cost needed to level up never changes. Only the character banner and weapon banner will change per patch.)
2. Primogems: The Wishful Crystals
Primogems a.k.a ‘Primos’ - these are every Genshin player’s most valuable asset. If you have tons of these, that’s such a flex. If you barely have enough of these, time to grind. Worst case scenario? You skip the banner of the character you want because you don’t have enough Primos to pull for. Now what can Primogems do:
Wishes and Gacha Pulls: Spend Primogems to make wishes in the game. These wishes can yield new characters or powerful weapons.
Additional Resin: When you run out of resin (used for domain farming), Primogems can save the day by replenishing it.
Earning Primogems:
Quests: Complete quests to earn Primogems.
Adventure Rank: As you level up, you’ll receive Primogems.
Special Events: Keep an eye out for events that reward these precious crystals.
Maintenance Compensation: Sometimes, the game showers players with Primogems during maintenance or as bug compensation.
3. Genesis Crystals: The Premium Currency
Genesis Crystals are the VIPs of the currency world:
Paid Currency: You can only obtain Genesis Crystals by spending real money in the in-game shop. I repeat, THIS specific crystal requires REAL MONEY. It means you pay via a mobile wallet just to make an in-game purchase. This is where the terms: F2P (Free-to-play: doesn’t spend real money in-game to make game purchases), dolphins (light spenders), whales (they’re willing to offer their credits cards and wallets to miHoyo) come to surface.
Exchange Rate: Each Genesis Crystal converts to one Primogem. So, they’re like the fancier cousins of Primogems.
4. Masterless Stardust and Starglitter: The Cosmic Rewards
Stardust and Starglitter are sort of like gifts for your wishes:
Stardust:
Consolation Prize: When you pull for the character banner or weapon banner, you accumulate Stardust.
Monthly Shopping: Spend Stardust in the game shop to acquire items and wishes.
Mora Exchange: Convert Stardust to Mora when you’re running low.
Fun Fact: Players typically get 15 Stardust per three-star wish.
Starglitter:
Rare: This is collected from wishes, Starglitter is a bit harder to obtain.
Shop: Use Starglitter to purchase specific ascension materials and wishes.
Character Exchange: Occasionally, you can exchange Starglitter for character constellations. Although this one requires super extreme saving.
TLDR;
Genshin Impact features various in-game currencies, each with its own specific use, depending on the player’s needs. Whether you are pulling for wishes, upgrading artifacts, or just collecting Mora, keep in mind that each coin you collect leads you closer to upgrading your team or pulling for your favorite character.
May we all be blessed with endless Primogems and may our pulls be lucky.
